Publisher description
Some immigrant ethnic groups spatially disperse over time while others maintain or increase spatial concentration. But to what extent are these patterns shaped by the cultural and structural organization of societies? A comparative analysis of ethnic and panethnic residential integration in Canada and the United States reveals that there are important cross-national as well as ethnic and panethnic group differences. In the US, the racial structure bears much importance on integration and Canada is distinctive for its integration ideology and policies. The motivation for migration, i.e. economic or humanitarian, is revealed as the key factor to explain integration patterns in both countries
