Publisher description

There was no person by the name of Jasher. The name "The Book of Jasher" is an English translation of the Hebrew title Sefer haYashar, which means "The Book of the Just." The Book of Jasher it is not divine Scripture. However, it is an ancient work which is valuable for the history of Biblical times. The Book of Jasher covers the material found in Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua, yet provides significant additional historical information, and goes into great detail about the life and times of Joseph. The Book of Jasher is mentioned twice in the Bible. 2 Samuel 2:18. "He instructed that the people should be taught the bow. Look! This is written in the Book of Jasher." (Book of the Just.) Joshua 10:13. "The Sun stood still, and the Moon stayed until the people had avenged themselves on their enemies. This is recorded in the Book of Jasher." (Book of the Just.) 2 Timothy 3:8 states, "And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men who have distorted minds and are disqualified in the faith also oppose the truth." Jannes and Jambres are mentioned in the Book of Jasher as the magicians who opposed Moses in the presence of Pharaoh. However, Jannes and Jambres are not mentioned elsewhere in the Bible. The Book of Jasher is accepted as authentic by some scholars of The Latter-Day Saints
