Publisher description
Excerpt from Johnson Water Gardens, Hynes, California, 1933 So many of our customers have built their own pools and have had such gratifying success that we are sure every one can do so. It is really a simple thing and surprisingly inexpensive particularly when one does his own work. Perhaps the first thing to decide upon is the type of pool best suiting your desires. Often the shape of the piece of ground you are utilizing will decide this for you. If the pool is to be in the center of the lawn or garden the rectangular or round shape (the so-called Formal Pool) is desirable as in this posi tion a geometrical form best fills the requirements of good design. Where the location is to one side or the plot is irregular the informal or irregular pool serves best. Many like the formal pool because of the ease of building forms and the increased room it gives for growing the lilies. Others prefer the informal as it gives an excellent opportunity to com bine it with a rock garden or ower border. It is simple to build as no forms are needed.
