All the world knows there is a wait difference between Arabic and the languages of Europe; and if the Italian tranllator was more traé'r in forming his words up to a near imitation of the Eafi'ern proprieties of fpeech, no doubt 'but int partial men will rather cenfure it as a fault, than cry it up for an excellency, fince nothing founds well in any language, which is not delivered in the natural idiom. Every thing ought to be written in-as familiar a fiyle as we difcourfe, efpecially letters, which are but a proxy method of converiing at a diliance; and he that tranllates out of one language into another ought to aim chie y at this, that he be fore to retain the original fenfe, and render it fmooth and eafy to the reader.
