In Mark xii. 29 our Lord himself echoes the testimony of the old economy, Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lor to which the Hebrew scribe responds, Master, thou hast said the truth; for there is one God, and there is none other but he. Yet in John x. 30 our Lord as distinctly says, I and my Father are one, which the Jews construed as blasphemy; because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. This inference our Lord, so far from disclaiming, immediately confirmed by declaring him self the Son of G (vs. In John xvii. 3 the same lips announce the same truth: This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
