Publisher description
This work proposes a unified theory of a world containing both thoughtful, conscious beings and 'mere' physical objects. The First Part presents a survey of previous mind and matter theories. The Second Part argues that our conscious experience has a presence in space and time which makes it impossible to shoehorn it into the familiar classical continua of space and time. However, contemporary space-time theories offer an alternative understanding. The Third Part speculates that our physical world is an appearance constructed to represent our real environment. It is argued that this is best understood by taking seriously the panpsychist thesis which populates the universe with beings like myself. Conclusion: The use of mass terms allows us to affirm the reality of space and time without supposing that they are real things
